1. Name the handover contactConfirm who can approve the work, provide site access and receive the new keys.
2. List returned and missing keysInclude staff, contractors, tenants and shared copies. Keep the record private.
3. Choose which access must changeIdentify the affected doors and user groups. Record electronic credentials separately from mechanical keys.
4. Note door and lock faultsFlag sticking locks, loose hardware and doors that fail to latch. Include push bars and closers where fitted.
5. Check the existing key systemTell the locksmith about a master-key system or restricted keys before ordering work or copies.
6. Agree on the work and visitConfirm the scope, estimate, access window and any area that must stay available during the visit.
7. Check the handoverHave the completed work demonstrated, confirm the intended keys work and receive the agreed key quantities.
8. Update your private key registerRecord who received each key and who can authorize future copies. Keep codes and access plans off public documents.
